Aloha, Friend.
Of the three parts of my mission as your U.S. Congressman – help lead our country, help our Hawai‘i, and help you and yours – the last one is the purest. It’s not about policy, or party, or appropriations, or other congressional work, but only about what your own concerns and needs are and whether and how my office and I can help you.
Constituent services, or what congressional offices sometimes call “casework” (because each concern has its own case), can address many questions and needs, even if just to get you to the right place for an answer. But the ones we specialize in are those directly involving the federal government, especially veterans benefits, Social Security and Medicare, immigration and naturalization, and the IRS.
Over my past seven-and-a-half-plus years in office, we’ve responded to some 10,000 constituent needs. We can’t make the federal government do what it can’t or shouldn’t do, and we don’t always get the result our constituent wants, but many times we’re able to answer questions and get solid results.
Here are a few recent examples:
- We helped a constituent receive a delayed 2025 federal tax refund totaling $9,206.14.
- We helped a constituent correct a mistake in his security clearance rating so he could continue his essential work.
- We helped a constituent receive retroactive retirement backpay totaling $71,031.60 for his time in the National Guard.
- We helped a constituent with a reassessment of his Veterans Administration disability benefits.
- We helped a constituent whose daughter was assaulted and hospitalized overseas to get answers through the US Embassy on her status and care.
- We helped a constituent who immigrated as an exchange visitor physician to obtain her Social Security number in order to continue her practice.
- We helped a constituent gain release of parcels for him being held by UPS at the direction of Customs and Border Protection.
- We helped a constituent get her Medicare claims processed for essential medical treatment.
Our services can range from simple answers or referrals to more complicated cases with federal agencies that sometimes take years of perseverance to resolve. My great staff who specialize in constituent services, mainly in my Honolulu office but assisted by my DC office, often become experts in the applicable federal rules and develop solid working relationships with their partners in the federal agencies.
There is more on our constituent services on my website at https://case.house.gov. You can call us at (808) 650-6688, email us at ed.case@mail.house.gov, or send us a completed Congressional Privacy Release Form available at https://case.house.gov/forms/casework/.
Please let us know of your question or concern and we’ll do our best. We’re here to help.
