Washington, DC,
January 3, 2025
(Washington, DC) -- U.S. Congressman Ed Case (HI-01) today joined his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in commencing the 119th Congress (2023-2025). Each Congress is for a two-year term, dating back to commencement of the 1st Congress in 1789. Case has represented Hawaii’s First Congressional District in the 118th (2023-2025), 117th (2021-2023) and 116th (2019-2021) Congresses, as well as Hawaii’s Second District in the 109th (2005-2007), 108th (2003-2005) and a portion of the 107th (2001-2003) Congresses. “For the seventh time, I stood in the chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives and took the same oath as have Members of Congress throughout our history: ‘I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God’.” “The deep tragedies of this brand-new year in our Hawai‘i, country and world just drive home again that we live in very difficult times. Our challenges are many, our divisions run deep, our adversaries work every day toward our failure. In this Congress we will also celebrate the 250th anniversary of our great country. Whether we overcome our challenges and divisions and persevere against our adversaries is our decision, just as it was for our founders and all of our generations since.” “I will continue to do everything in my power to do so, to chart the best way forward for our country and Hawai‘i through our challenges. My mission remains the same: to (1) contribute to national leadership; (2) help our Hawai‘i; and (3) help my constituents with their individual needs and concerns. Yesterday, Case sent out another of his regular districtwide e-newsletters here, including an end-of-2024 report as well as the results of his recent constituent survey on issues of concern and on his performance. “My constituents have again made clear what’s concerning them, and my focus is on addressing their concerns,” said Case. Case enters the 119th Congress in a key position to continue to address Hawaii’s needs, especially in his fourth term as a member of the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations, responsible for all federal discretionary funding. He expects to continue his service on Appropriations’ Subcommittees on Defense, responsible for all defense funding, and Homeland Security, responsible for funding various critical domestic security efforts as well as the U.S. Coast Guard. “I’m also very grateful to again join my Hawai‘i colleagues, Senators Schatz and Hirono and Representative Tokuda, on a strong Capitol Hill team for our home,” said Case. “Representing a small state like Hawai‘i, with just four votes out of a total 535 in Congress, that’s what it takes to deliver jointly on critical needs for Hawai‘i like COVID, Red Hill and Maui in just the last few years, and I’m very happy to serve with them.” Case also emphasized the importance of continuing to stay in close touch with his 700,000-plus constituents wherever and however possible. As one part of that effort, he announced six more of his Talk Story with Congressman Ed Case in-person, districtwide community meetings in late January and early February here . He also encouraged his constituents to review his efforts at https://case.house.gov and contact him at ed.case@mail.house.gov. ### Attachments:
