Case Votes To Prevent Federal Government Shutdown And Add Billions In Emergency Assistance For Maui And Other Disasters

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Representative Ed Case (Hawai‘i-01) made the following statement on his vote today in the U.S. House to prevent a federal government shutdown tonight and add $16 billion to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) Disaster Relief Fund:

“The deep division and polarization on Capitol Hill should never have been allowed to take Congress to the brink of still another damaging federal government shutdown. The measure we passed today, while temporary and incomplete, shows that we can if we want work for practical bipartisan compromise solutions to get things done.

“And it is especially good news that the measure adds fully $16 billion to FEMA’s rapidly depleting Disaster Relief Fund which is providing most of our Maui wildfire emergency disaster assistance.

“We have a lot more work to do, but this is a good result for now.”
