(Honolulu, HI) -  Congressman Ed Case (HI-01 announced today that middle and high school students can now register for his annual Congressional App Challenge competition designed to encourage youth participation and foster creativity and innovation in computer science.

“The Challenge is a great opportunity for our local students to focus their skills and creativity on developing, testing and analyzing new applications for real-world use,” said Case.

“The results of my first Challenge last year demonstrate that we have in Hawai’i a deep pool of talent with the skill set, imagination and resolve to compete against the best of our young people nationwide in STEM, along with the potential to lead the next generations of computer science and technology.”

The Congressional App Challenge (congressionalappchallenge.us), the most prestigious competition in computer science, is an official national  initiative of the U.S. House of Representatives, in which Members of Congress host contests in their districts for middle and high school students and winning apps are recognized nationally in Congress.

Those interested in signing up for the competition are encouraged to register to participate by September 10, 2020 on the App Challenge page on the official website of Congressman Case here.

Last year, 16-year-old Arjun Sharma of Honolulu won first place with his app “CleanMyBeach”, described as a robust application that streamlines the process of organizing and finding community beach cleanups. An application is a type of software that allows a person to perform specific tasks.  Applications for desktop or laptop computers are sometimes called desktop applications, while those for mobile devices are called mobile apps.
