Congressman Ed Case Responds to the President's National Address

(Honolulu, HI) -- Following President Trump’s address to the nation on security on the country’s Southern border, Case issued this response:

“Whether or not to build a wall, or secure our border in other ways, has nothing to do with keeping our government open and helping hundreds of millions of Americans who are being deprived of essential government services.  I agree with the President that we need enhanced border security, and as one Member of Congress, I am committed to a full discussion on how best to do so.

“But I completely disagree with him that thousands of Hawaii federal workers and their families should be held hostage to that discussion."

“Even entire industries like Hawaii tourism should not have to face a potential shut-down of prime visitor attractions while we wait for the President to reopen the government."

“In his insistence on this destructive path, he not only unnecessarily harms millions, but alienates the many of us who share his overall concern but believe deeply that this is the wrong way to solve it.”
